Climate / Thermal SW Development & Calibration Engineer
Join Aurora Engineering AB! We’re hiring a Climate/Thermal SW & Calibration Engineer to develop, test, and optimize EV thermal systems. Work with MBD, INCA/CANape, and real-world validation. Apply now
At Aurora Engineering AB, we support leading OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers across Sweden in developing next-generation electric and thermal systems. We are now looking for a Climate/Thermal Software Development & Calibration Engineer to join our growing team of domain specialists.
This role suits an engineer who thrives at the intersection of controls development, thermal system physics, and calibration engineering, and who is passionate about delivering robust, energy-efficient thermal performance for modern electrified vehicles.
About the Role
You will design, implement, and calibrate advanced control functions for HVAC, battery thermal management, and vehicle cooling systems. The role spans the full lifecycle—from model-based algorithm development to vehicle and lab testing—working closely with cross-functional teams including controls, software, diagnostics, and testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop climate and thermal control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow and model-based development workflows.
- Implement structured C code and support integration with embedded platforms.
- Conduct rapid prototyping using dSPACE, NI LabVIEW, or equivalent tools.
- Perform advanced calibration using ETAS INCA, Vector CANape, and related toolchains.
- Apply DoE and structured calibration methodologies to optimize performance across environments.
- Lead functional ownership of selected thermal features (e.g., cabin warm-up, battery cooling for fast charging).
- Execute testing in environmental chambers, HiL rigs, and proving grounds to validate control strategies.
- Derive software requirements and define test cases for validation activities.
- Analyze large datasets using MATLAB, Python, or DIAdem to guide development and calibration decisions.
- Collaborate with vehicle, system, and software teams to deliver high-quality, production-ready functionality.
Required Qualifications
- BS/MS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering, with focus on thermodynamics, controls, mechatronics, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of thermal system physics (heat transfer, refrigeration cycles) and control theory (PID, state machines, feedforward).
- Hands-on experience with Model-Based Development (MBD) using MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow and Embedded Coder.
- Proficiency in structured C programming for embedded systems.
- Strong calibration experience with INCA, CANape, or similar tools.
- Experience with laboratory and vehicle testing for HVAC or thermal systems.
- Ability to work independently as a function owner, driving design, validation, and performance outcomes.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with EV platforms (BEV/PHEV) battery thermal management.
- Exposure to HiL system development or automation.
- Familiarity with automotive SPICE, ISO 26262, or OEM-specific development processes.
- Knowledge of energy optimization methods for climate systems.
- Department
- IT & Engineering
- Locations
- Gothenburg , Sweden
