CMF Designer Specialist (Color, Material & Finish)
We are seeking an experienced CMF Designer Specialist to join a global product design team and drive the development of innovative Color, Material, and Finish (CMF) solutions for future mobility products. This role requires a creative and technically skilled designer who can translate brand strategy into compelling material experiences while ensuring sustainability, quality, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and design surface materials, including colors, trims, textiles, gloss levels, grains, and finishes for visible vehicle surfaces and components.
Create and communicate design concepts through sketches, renderings, illustrations, CAD models, and 3D visualizations.
Lead the development of both digital and physical CMF models and prototypes.
Ensure sustainable and environmentally responsible material selections throughout the design process.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions aligned with brand identity and design strategy.
Secure design quality across all visible surfaces and components supplied by internal and external partners.
Influence and contribute to long-term CMF and brand design strategies.
Mentor and coach team members while supporting capability development within the design organization.
Drive innovation and promote best practices in CMF design and material development.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, CMF Design, Textile Design, Product Design, or a related field.
Minimum 8 years of professional experience in CMF Design.
Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in color, materials, finishes, textures, and surface development.
Experience working with digital visualization, 3D modeling, and physical prototyping.
Strong understanding of material technologies, sustainability principles, and manufacturing processes.
Ability to communicate design intent effectively through sketches, renderings, and presentations.
Experience collaborating with suppliers and engineering teams to ensure design quality and execution.
Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
Preferred Skills
Automotive, transportation, consumer products, or industrial design experience.
Knowledge of emerging materials, sustainable innovations, and future design trends.
Experience leading complex projects and mentoring design teams.
Strong strategic thinking and ability to contribute to brand development initiatives.
