We are looking for a Materials Engineer / Metallographer to join a laboratory team supporting advanced manufacturing, production, research, and development activities.

The laboratory works across materials analysis, chemical laboratory testing, metallography, microscopy, and thermal spray technologies. The role involves investigating materials and processes, supporting production-related challenges, conducting damage and failure investigations, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

You will work closely with laboratory colleagues, engineers, production teams, and internal customers to deliver reliable material analysis and laboratory results.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform sample preparation and material testing using cutting, mounting/casting, grinding, and polishing equipment.

• Prepare samples for metallographic and microscopic examination.

• Conduct and support microscopy investigations of metallographic, thermally sprayed, and additively manufactured/printed samples.

• Analyze and document examination results and prepare technical reports and laboratory documentation.

• Support material characterization, damage investigations, and problem-solving activities related to production and process development.

• Contribute to research and development of new materials and manufacturing processes.

• Work with colleagues across materials engineering, laboratory operations, and process development on continuous improvement initiatives.

• Support laboratory instrument development, IT systems, calibration, quality assurance, and process improvements.

• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into practical laboratory solutions.

• Ensure laboratory activities are performed according to applicable quality, safety, and documentation requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Technical education or professional background, preferably in Materials Technology, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field.

• Practical interest in laboratory work, materials analysis, inspection, and testing environments.

• Basic understanding of metallography, microscopy, and material characterization techniques.

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard IT tools.

• Ability to learn and work with laboratory information management systems and technical software.

• Good spoken and written English.

• Good spoken and written Swedish.

Preferred / Meritorious Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with metallographic sample preparation.

• Experience working with microscopy and material examination equipment.

• Experience with thermal spray, additive manufacturing, coatings, or related manufacturing processes.

• Experience with laboratory systems, quality management, or laboratory documentation.

• Practical experience operating and maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment.

• Good mechanical aptitude and confidence working with cutting, grinding, polishing, and other workshop/laboratory equipment.
