Senior Test Strategist
Lead test strategy for a modern cloud platform. Build automated tests, strengthen CI/CD quality gates and coach teams to deliver reliable products and customer solutions.
About the role
We are looking for a Senior Test Strategist to define and implement a practical testing approach for products and professional services migrating to a new technology platform.
This role combines test strategy, test architecture and hands-on implementation. You will work closely with architects, DevOps teams, product teams and customer-delivery teams to strengthen testability, establish automation and integrate quality gates into delivery pipelines.
You will also help OEM customers and suppliers understand testing responsibilities, environments and evidence requirements across the product and customer-delivery lifecycle.
Your responsibilities
Define a test strategy covering unit, component, API, contract, integration, system, non-functional and end-to-end testing.
Establish non-functional testability requirements so services are observable, diagnosable and suitable for reliable automation.
Work directly with architects and DevOps teams to implement testability improvements, automated tests, CI/CD integration and quality gates.
Define ownership and responsibilities for product-level testing and customer-delivery testing.
Design and validate end-to-end tests across products and professional services, including customer-specific configurations, integrations, external systems and critical business journeys.
Establish requirements for test data, environments, isolation, anonymisation, cleanup, diagnostics and test-result reporting.
Define how smoke, regression, negative, performance, resilience, security and production-verification tests should be used.
Assess existing products to identify testability gaps, risks, dependencies and improvement actions.
Recommend tooling for automated execution, consolidated reporting and traceability.
Coach teams and create practical guidance that supports implementation and ongoing maintenance of the strategy.
What you will deliver
A documented test strategy defining test levels, ownership, responsibilities, tooling and quality gates.
Documented non-functional testability requirements for the relevant test levels.
A working automated test suite in the new technology stack, integrated into CI/CD pipelines and ready for DevOps teams to use.
Validated customer-delivery flows covering configurations, integrations, external systems and key business journeys.
A responsibility and onboarding matrix, supported by accessible guidance for developers, DevOps teams, OEM customer test teams and suppliers.
Your experience
You have broad, hands-on experience defining and implementing test strategies for distributed, cloud-native or service-based platforms.
You bring strong knowledge and practical experience in:
Test strategy, test architecture and risk-based testing.
Unit, component, API, contract, integration, system and end-to-end testing.
Customer-delivery testing across products and professional services.
Non-functional testing, including performance, resilience, security and compliance.
Test automation, CI/CD pipelines, testability requirements and quality gates.
Observability, including logging, metrics, tracing, correlation IDs and diagnostics.
Test data management, anonymisation, isolation and cleanup.
Test environments, service virtualisation, mocks, stubs and disposable infrastructure.
Cloud-native platforms, Kubernetes, APIs, databases and asynchronous messaging.
Migration, modernisation or platform transformation programmes.
BDD/Gherkin, test pyramids and test quadrants.
Collaboration with architects, DevOps, product teams, professional services, customers and suppliers.
Who you are
You turn complex testing needs into clear, practical guidance. You are comfortable moving between architecture discussions and hands-on implementation, and you can align teams around shared responsibilities and quality expectations.
You communicate clearly, coach others effectively and make testing approaches accessible to both internal teams and external partners.
