Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) / Cloud Observability & FinOps Lead
We are looking for an experienced Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) / Cloud Observability & FinOps Lead to drive cloud reliability, observability, cost optimization, and operational excellence within a large-scale, distributed technology environment.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role with responsibility for designing, implementing, and continuously improving cloud infrastructure and production systems across AWS and GCP.
The successful candidate will take ownership of four key areas:
End-to-end observability across infrastructure, platforms, applications, and business services.
Cloud cost optimization and FinOps across AWS and GCP.
Production reliability, incident management, and risk reduction.
Root cause analysis and systematic improvement of production incidents.
The role requires someone who can go beyond architecture and strategy to deliver measurable technical and operational improvements.
Key Responsibilities
1. End-to-End Observability
Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive observability framework covering:
Infrastructure: AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, networking, and storage.
Platform services: Message queues, databases, caching systems, and API gateways.
Application services: Microservices, APIs, and critical business workflows.
Business services: Key operational and business performance indicators.
Key deliverables:
Design a unified observability architecture integrating metrics, logs, and distributed traces.
Establish standardized metrics, structured logging, and tracing conventions.
Implement operational dashboards for infrastructure, platform services, and business-critical APIs.
Configure alerting with P0/P1/P2 severity levels, automated routing, and noise reduction.
Define and monitor SLI, SLO, and SLA frameworks, including at least five critical business SLOs and error-budget policies.
2. Cloud Cost Optimization – FinOps
Lead cloud cost optimization initiatives across AWS and GCP while maintaining performance, availability, and reliability.
Key responsibilities:
Build unified cloud cost dashboards across AWS and GCP.
Analyze cloud spending by team, product, service, and environment.
Optimize Kubernetes clusters, compute resources, serverless workloads, and storage.
Improve database resource utilization and reduce unnecessary networking costs.
Introduce cost controls, resource ownership, and budget policies.
Integrate cloud cost checks into CI/CD pipelines.
Conduct regular cost reviews and track measurable savings.
3. Production Reliability & Incident Management
Establish systematic reliability engineering practices to improve production stability and reduce operational risks.
Key responsibilities:
Define and implement incident management processes for critical production incidents.
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and ensure corrective actions are completed.
Establish reliability governance, SLO monitoring, and error-budget management.
Implement canary deployments, gradual rollouts, and automated rollback mechanisms.
Identify systemic technical risks and maintain a prioritized remediation roadmap.
Improve incident response efficiency and reduce recurring production failures.
4. Kubernetes & Multi-Cloud Platform Optimization
Improve the performance, stability, and resource efficiency of Kubernetes environments across AWS and GCP.
Key responsibilities:
Optimize Amazon EKS and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) architectures.
Troubleshoot cluster instability, memory issues, networking failures, and resource bottlenecks.
Improve workload scheduling, scaling, and resource utilization.
Strengthen infrastructure automation and operational resilience.
Support continuous improvement of cloud platform architecture.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Professional Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Cloud Platform Engineering.
At least 3 years in a technical leadership position, such as Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Technical Lead.
Proven experience operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
Demonstrated ability to independently deliver technical solutions and measurable improvements.
Cloud & Infrastructure
Strong hands-on expertise in both AWS and GCP.
Experience designing and operating multi-cloud architectures.
Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform, Pulumi, or AWS CDK.
Deep knowledge of Kubernetes, including production cluster management and troubleshooting.
Observability & Monitoring
Proven experience designing and implementing observability solutions from scratch.
Strong knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Elasticsearch, and Kibana.
Experience with OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, structured logging, and monitoring.
Ability to design effective alerting, dashboards, and reliability metrics.
Reliability & Automation
Strong understanding of SRE principles, including SLI, SLO, SLA, and error budgets.
Experience with production incident management, RCA, and reliability improvements.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and rollback strategies.
Strong programming skills in Python, Go, or Java.
Communication & Leadership
Excellent English communication skills.
Ability to collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, platform, and business teams.
Strong problem-solving, technical leadership, and stakeholder management capabilities.
Ability to take ownership of complex technical initiatives from design through implementation and operation.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience implementing FinOps practices with measurable cloud cost savings.
Strong background in Google SRE principles and practices.
Experience with Chaos Engineering and resilience testing.
Knowledge of eBPF and advanced performance profiling.
Experience designing multi-cloud disaster recovery solutions (Active-Active or Active-Passive).
Contributions to open-source infrastructure or observability projects.
Experience improving reliability and operational efficiency in large-scale cloud-native environments.
Candidate Location Requirement
Applicants must currently reside in Hungary or Poland.
Candidates should have relevant experience working with international engineering teams and be comfortable collaborating in an English-speaking technical environment.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a technically strong, proactive engineering leader who combines deep cloud infrastructure knowledge with practical SRE and FinOps expertise.
The ideal candidate has successfully implemented observability frameworks, optimized multi-cloud environments, improved production reliability, and delivered measurable cost savings.
This position requires hands-on technical ownership, not just architectural or advisory experience.
